Too Soon: I’ve had a lot of people I’ve known and loved die, many too early, and it doesn’t seem to matter if it was a young person, middle-aged or elderly; I always hear people say it was ‘too soon.’ Now, that phrase has almost become a punch line.. and comedians have mined it for laughs very effectively. But it really captures an emotion, a tangible feeling of loss and I really wanted to write into that feeling. My co-writer on this song, Andre Chrys, really helped me capture the intense emotional hit that happens in the hours and days after losing a loved one.

Lyrics

Too Soon

Saying your name to the darkness
Clock’s counting down 4 am
I can’t believe I won’t get to hold you
Ever again

I shouldn't be here without you
So hard to be left alone
Somehow I feel like a wound that won’t heal
A cut that goes down past the bone

Too soon… for letting you go…
Too soon… I’m hitting new lows
I’m raw, and I’m wrecked, and I’m down, and I’m cold, and I’m blue
It’s all coming at me
Too soon…

Walking with Ghosts in the hallway
Lost in a photo of you
Memories bring both comfort and pain
But that’s all I’m holdin’ onto

Too soon… for letting you go…
Too soon… I’m hitting new lows
I’m raw, and I’m wrecked, and I’m down, and I’m cold, and I’m blue
It’s all coming at me
Too soon…

You always showed me how to be strong
I know you’d want me to carry on
Sorrow pours down a cold hard rain
How will I learn how to live again…

Too soon… For letting you go….
Too soon… I’m hitting new lows
I’m raw, and I’m wrecked, I’m down, and I’m cold, and I’m blue
It’s all coming at me too soon
It’s all coming at me… The pain... and I can’t breathe
It’s all coming at me…
Too soon
