Privacy Policy

Last updated: 16 October 2026

Who we are

Rust & Fire is the music project of Dean Sawatzky, operated by Liminal Music in British Columbia, Canada.

This policy explains how we handle personal information through our website, mailing list and music-release campaigns that link to this policy.

For privacy questions or requests, contact:

Information we collect

When you contact us or subscribe to updates, we collect the information you provide, such as your name, email address and the contents of your message.

When you participate in a music-release campaign, such as a Spotify pre-save, the campaign provider may make information available to us according to the permissions you authorize and its service settings. This can include your name or display name, email address, platform identifier and participation in the campaign.

We also keep records of mailing-list permissions and unsubscribe requests so that we can respect your communication choices.

Website and campaign services may collect technical information, such as browser or device information, IP addresses, referring pages and interactions with the page. The services involved are described below.

How we use information

We use personal information to respond to enquiries, administer music-release campaigns, carry out actions you request, and send the Rust & Fire updates you choose to receive.

We also use relevant information to understand campaign performance, maintain consent records, protect our services and meet applicable legal obligations.

We limit our use of personal information to the purposes explained when it is collected, unless we obtain further consent or another use is permitted or required by law.

Pre-saves and email subscriptions

A pre-save campaign may ask you to authorize a streaming service connection so that a release can be saved to your library or an artist can be followed. Review the permissions displayed before authorizing that connection.

Pre-saving a song or following Rust & Fire is not, by itself, a request to join our email mailing list.

When you choose to subscribe to Rust & Fire emails, we use your email address to send the updates described at sign-up. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in a marketing email or by contacting us.

Subscribing to Rust & Fire does not automatically subscribe you to the Free Your Box podcast mailing list. Any subscription to that separate list requires a separate choice.

Services that handle information

We use Show.co for pre-save campaigns and CD Baby’s HearNow service for music-release landing pages.

These services have their own privacy notices and may process information both to provide services to us and for purposes they describe independently. Show.co’s policy also describes its own tracking and potential marketing of services offered by Show.co and its parent companies. Review its privacy notice and the choices presented when participating.

We remain responsible for personal information under our control. A provider’s own practices are not necessarily identical to ours.

Website, mailing list and store services

Our website, mailing list and online store are managed through Bandzoogle. Bandzoogle processes information on our behalf to operate the website, manage subscribers, deliver email updates and support merchandise orders. Bandzoogle

When you subscribe to our mailing list, your email address and any additional information you provide, such as your name, are stored in Bandzoogle’s mailing-list system. We use this information to send the Rust & Fire updates you requested. You can unsubscribe using the link in our marketing emails or by contacting info@rustandfire.com.

Bandzoogle’s built-in reporting provides information about website visits, referring websites, approximate visitor locations and interactions with our music. Its email reporting also provides delivery and engagement information, including recorded email opens and link clicks, which may be associated with individual subscribers. We use these reports to understand interest in our music and improve our website and communications. Bandzoogle

Our merchandise store uses Bandzoogle’s integrated connection to Printful for production and fulfilment, with Stripe processing payments. Relevant order and delivery information is shared with the services needed to process, produce and ship your purchase, as described in the merchandise-orders section of this policy.

Cookies and similar technologies

Campaign providers and website services may use cookies or similar technologies to operate their services, remember preferences and measure activity. Some providers also describe advertising-related tracking.

Use the cookie or privacy controls offered by the relevant service to manage available choices. Browser settings can also limit cookies, although this may affect functionality.

This policy does not, by itself, constitute consent to optional tracking or third-party marketing.

Storage, protection and retention

Information handled by our service providers may be processed or stored outside Canada, including in the United States, and may be subject to the laws of those countries.

We use reasonable administrative and technical safeguards appropriate to the information we handle, and limit access to people who need it for an authorized purpose. No online service can guarantee absolute security.

We retain personal information only as long as necessary for the purposes described in this policy and applicable legal requirements. When it is no longer needed, we delete it or make it non-identifying.

After an unsubscribe request, we may retain a limited record to honour that request and document our compliance. Service providers have their own retention practices for information they independently control.

Your choices and privacy requests

You can contact us to request access to personal information we hold about you, request corrections, withdraw consent, or ask us to delete information we no longer need to retain.

Some requests are subject to legal requirements or exceptions. We may need to verify your identity before providing or changing personal information.

Please direct privacy questions or complaints to info@rustandfire.com. We will investigate and respond within applicable legal time limits. You may also raise a concern with the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner for British Columbia.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as our services or practices change. The current version will appear on this page with an updated date.

Where required, we will provide additional notice or obtain consent before making a material change to how we use personal information.
